Description
Have a yen to try a local hike, but don’t know where to begin? Join for scenic morning hikes close to home this summer and fall. The Sampler Hike Series is a free six-pack of popular treks lead by Parks and Recreation Staff on Saturday mornings. Explorers of all skill levels are invited to experience the fun of one hike, all six, or somewhere in between. Space is limited to 12 hikers and advanced registration is necessary.
Enjoy climbing over Bull Mountain in a mature forest of hardwoods and to the ruins of Rattlesnake Lodge, a one-time mountain getaway for noted conservationist Dr. Chase Ambler. The 4.25 mile trek there (2.1 miles) and back (2.1 miles) is moderately steep in places and has a rugged terrain. We will meet at the trailhead located on Elk Mountain Scenic Highway off of the Blue Ridge Parkway (there are multiple pull off spots in close proximity to the trailhead).
