Description
Class description: As Vest Agder Fylke is on the south coast of Norway, rosemaling developed there with influences from Europe. So we see many examples of painted tulips from Holland. The chests painted by Vest Agder painter Guttorm Eftesdol feature three front panels or “portals”, backgrounded in a off white color with colorful bouquets of stylized flowers. Examples of these “portal” trunks have inspired me to paint my own bouquets of Vest Agder flowers on a 12” plate or 12” shallow bowl. I have surrounded the bouquet with a geometric design which complements the flowers.

Instructor biography: I have been rosemaling for about 30 years and achieved a Vesterheim Gold Medal in 2017. I was fortunate to visit Norway three times in 2013, 2016 and 2018 and I use photos from those visits (as well as postings on Rosemaling Facebook) as ideas for my designs. I like painting and teaching all styles but particularly Os, Trondelag, Agder, Setesdal and Rogaland. I have taught at a Sons of Norway Lodge in Denver for many years and enjoy sharing my knowledge of this wonderful folk art.
