Description
New Haven Museum will host a presentation with New Haven-based visual and public artist Kwadwo Adae for a "Virtual Tour of New Haven Murals," on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 6 p.m., preceded by a reception at 5:30 p.m.
Adae will offer a virtual mural tour of public art initiatives throughout New Haven, focusing on works completed in Dixwell, Newhallville, Fair Haven, The Hill, Westville, East Rock, and Downtown New Haven, and discuss their significance. He’ll also discuss the various community partnerships and non-profit organizations that have financially supported the projects. Visitors will also get a glimpse of a proposed future installation in the city, followed by a Q&A.
Adae notes the extensive processes behind the creation of public art are profoundly challenging, inherently messy, and extraordinarily difficult. He adds that it is important for people to be aware of how public space is altered and improved by the creation of public art. “Community feedback is vital to the process of installing murals,” he says. “Public forums such as this one are a perfect opportunity for the public to hear about upcoming projects and to talk to artists.”
