The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership's Community Kitchen is a cookery school where everyone can cook, learn new skills and enjoy food with others. We want everyone to experience the benefits of cooking and eating together. By paying for a cookery class, you help other people to attend cookery activities, regardless of finance, confidence or ability, and to make lasting changes to their lives.
Description
During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, it is traditional to host iftar parties (evening meals to break the fast) - where family gather and feast till dawn. There are always special dishes served only during Ramadan, often cooked by those who are not fasting to feed those who are. These secret recipes are passed down through generations.
Community Kitchen chef Nigora is donating her time for this special fundraising lesson, where she invites you to come and join her feast. Ramadan is about bringing people together whether you fasting or not, and no matter your religion, it is a time of giving and sharing.
Nigora's typical menu will include:
- Uzbek chuchvara (similar to tortellini), served with a traditional clear broth.
- Asian noodle salad
- Armenian gata/ baklava
Your leader is keen home cook and baker Nigora, who grew up learning these dishes from her mother and grandmother in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She loves to share her joy for cooking with others, and particularly to bring Uzbek food to new people.
What previous participants said about Nigora's classes: "Learning about how people eat in Uzbekistan - it was so, so interesting. The food was perfect." "Four very different courses, all delicious, a well-planned menu. Want to recreate the dishes at home." "Loved everything and Nigora is very professional." "The atmosphere - lovely and friendly.
