Description

Artist Round Up is an opportunity for creatives of all disciplines to come together in a space to meet like-minded creatives who they could collaborate with, talk to, find inspiration from and just generally hang out with.

For our August meet up, bust out your best collaging materials and collaborate with other artists on the third Artist Round Up zine. We use this zine practice as a creative outlet or as a way to communicate your artistic style and for this edition we’re teaming up with LoudHouse & ARCHIVES artist collectives. They have a joint show coming up and we’re asking participants to consider the collectives' exhibition themes (below) when planning for their contributions to the zine.

Each participant will be able to pick up a copy of the completed zine at the LoudHouse/ARCHIVE show in October MORE DETAILS. Copies will also be available at AcA from the first week of September.

We will have some supplies but we encourage you to BYO crafting materials - old magazines, artwork, markers, pencils, paints, stickers, etc. We also would love to encourage literary contributions.

LOUDHOUSE and ARCHIVES are two emerging artist collectives based in Lafayette, LA.

LOUDHOUSE is a cohort of over 20 artists who create opportunities for experimental exploration and development of work. We are South Louisiana creatives dedicated to perpetuating contemporary art within our community and beyond. Not merely artists, we are also lawyers, teachers, graphic designers, event planners, architects, and chefs - all who have a passion to drive Lafayette’s art scene forward. Our mission: push boundaries and produce art that isn’t the standard.

LoudHouse’s programDEprogram exhibition aims to focus on the tension between the self and the world, the self and belief, the self and others, and the transformation of identity as a conscious or unconscious response to fear. The concept of constantly programming and deprogramming the self is a key part of this idea. It will be a linear experience through spaces conceptually organized by colors, in a nod to Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Masque of the Red Death”.

ARCHIVES is a Louisiana based arts organization that coordinates and curates unconventional group exhibitions featuring over 20 established, mid-career, and emerging artists. This exhibition series aims to highlight emerging and established artists of Louisiana while also creating an atmosphere that fosters collaboration, unrestricted expression, and network building. Through A R C H I V E S, we hope to bring unique arts experiences to parts of the community not regularly involved in the arts and provide creatives with meaningful connections to further their careers.

ARCHIVES: Systems calls artists to dissect, deconstruct, and analyze the various systems that govern our lives, from the personal to the political, cultural, and ecological. This exploration of the intricate relationships between artwork and the broader contexts of the individual, culture, and society functions to engage both audiences and artists in dialogue with one another to truly reflect on the states of our community.

Our mission is fostering art and culture in Acadiana.

Founded in 1975, Acadiana Center for the Arts (“AcA”) is a community-supported nonprofit organization that fosters art and culture in Acadiana. Since its founding, AcA has developed as a major force, shaping the future of public education and community development in South Louisiana.

AcA supports the creation of new works of art, exhibits, festivals, performances, and public art across an eight-parish region that includes Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion Parishes.

AcA aims to bring equitable access to the arts and supports fair compensation of artists. On average, AcA serves over 300,000 people annually and provides fair compensation to 2,700 artists.

In 2013, the AcA merged with the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana (“PASA”), whose mission was to educate, inspire, entertain, and culturally enrich the people of south Louisiana by providing local access to a diverse range of the performing arts. This merger supported the vision of both organizations and provided much-needed support to PASA’s programs. Founded in 1989, PASA served as a leading voice in the performing arts in South Louisiana for close to three decades.
