Description

Convinced over 40 years ago that Christ had indeed come to teach His people Himself, Ayesha Imani has been on a Quaker faith journey to be true to her personal relationship with the Divine, true to her commitment to Black liberation, and true to a Quaker experience rooted in a spirituality that affirms her Africanity.  Along the way, Ayesha has been one of the organizers and founders of the Fellowship of Friends of African Descent, the Ujima Friends Peace Center, and the Ujima Friends Meeting.  Ayesha is a member of Germantown Monthly Meeting where she served on the Religious Education, Outreach and School Committees.  She is a member of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting where she has served on the Racial Concerns Committee and the Quaker Life Council. She is the Clerk of Ujima Friends Peace Center in North Philadelphia.

Ayesha has dedicated her life to creating educational spaces in the public square that affirm the history, cultural and spirituality of people of African Descent and empower young people to work for social justice and human rights.  She is the founder and Head of Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School, a social justice freedom school in Philadelphia.  Ayesha Imani holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education, a Masters of Public Administration and a PhD in Urban Education all from Temple University. She is the mother of three awesome educators and the grandmother of two joyful, caring human beings.
