Description
A presentation of the Gold Program, Eastern Iowa's Reader's Theatre program for the 60+ community.
Written by Chuck Blasius & Robert Kahan.
In a parallel universe, Bette and Kate are two actresses in their 80s who, when young, made the fateful decision NOT to go to Hollywood in the 1930s to become movie stars, but to stay in New York to pursue their love of the stage. And here they still are, sixty years later, hanging out in the Actors’ Equity lounge, still going to open calls, still working survival jobs (Bette at an answering service, Kate waitressing at a diner) and still hoping for and expecting their big break. As they both compete for the same role in a stock production of DRIVING MISS DAISY, long-simmering jealousies and feuds arise. Ultimately though, their respect and love for each other shines through – we realize they would do anything for each other.
Recommended for audiences 17+ for language.
