Red Bird is proud to present one of great Ottawa’s musical institutions… Bluegrass Mondays, which is now in it’s 10th year and has found a home here on our stage. Bluegrass Mondays features Bluegrass bands from the region (Montreal to Kingston) and the occasional visiting touring band.

Not familiar with Bluegrass music yet? Banjo, guitar, bass and mandolin usually form the basic Bluegrass band instrumentation. Add a dobro or a fiddle and you’ve got a wonderfully broad Bluegrass instrumentation. But what really makes Bluegrass distinguished from other folk or string band music is the distinct vocal harmonies featuring two, three, or four parts, often with a dissonant or modal sound in the highest voice a style described as the "high, lonesome sound.”

Many of the bands at Bluegrass Mondays are award winning, and every so often the stage is opened up to any players for an evening of great jamming with the “house band”. Organizers Kate Greenland and Pat Moore are joined by sound engineer Robert Allan for an evening of talent and great sound. Come join us at 7:30pm for a 2 hour concert of the best in Bluegrass. With a low cover charge ($15) we keep it pocket friendly so you can make this your weekly ritual. Bluegrass Mondays is always an entertaining evening of well honed Bluegrass music that you will keep you coming back.
