Description

As part of its Welcome Blanket special exhibit programming, the Museum of Work and Culture is excited to host the second book talk in a two-part series. Each talk will feature a local author sharing their own family’s migration journey and how they came to call New England home.

On September 25 at 6pm, join local author Paula Grandpré Wood as she highlights her book, The Long Walk Home with the Ceinture Fléchée: The Arrow Sash. Wood was born in Pawtucket, RI, close to the train station where her De Grandpre ancestors arrived from Québec. One day these ancestors and her family’s “Ceinture Fléchée” began speaking to her heart and calling her home. Participants will follow Wood as she retraces her ancestor’s journey from La Rochelle, France to the villages along the St. Lawrence River to that train station in Pawtucket. Along the way, learn about subjects as varied as the Acadian exile and industrial life in Fall River.

Paula Grandpré Wood is an author, physical therapist, wife, and a person who heard the call of her ancestors! Paula was born in Pawtucket, RI close to the train station where her De Grandpre ancestors arrived from Quebec. One day these ancestors and her family's “Ceinture Fléchée (arrow sash) began speaking to her heart. Her ancestors were touching her through its wool fibers and calling her home. Like the threads woven to make this unique sash, their ancestral genetic threads are woven into her, making her a blend of many generations of her ancestors. Making her who God planned for her to be. North Central Massachusetts is where Paula now lives with her husband Michael and their three energetic dogs.

Following the talk will be a book signing, with the author’s book available for purchase. Attendance to the series is free, but registration is required.

Welcome Blanket is made possible with the support of Welcome Blanket and Jayna Zweiman, Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island, the Blackstone Valley Piecemakers Quilting Guild, and the Blackstone Valley Quilting Company.
