Description
Buncombe County Parks and Recreation is hosting a Campout at Lake Julian Park (37 Lake Julian Road in Arden) on Saturday, June 10. The annual event will bring together families, friends, and youth groups to connect with nature for a fun and memorable night sleeping under the stars.
“There is no better way to inspire a lifelong appreciation of and relationship with nature than to spend a night outdoors beneath the stars,” according to Mac Stanley of Buncombe County Parks and Recreation. “Camping is traditionally part of the summertime experience for many families, but can get overlooked in these days of ‘indoor childhood.’ We’re thrilled to provide an experience for all generations to connect with the natural world and one another.”
Lake Julian Park does not usually allow overnight camping, but acts as an inspiring location for the nocturnal event. No prior camping experience is required as the Campout is designed as a low-frill backyard campout. Attendees bring their own tents and sleeping bags.
Campers can participate in a handful of planned activities including demonstrations by SAWS and REI, a birding excursion (sunday morning), a traditional campfire with some sing alongs, and – of course – s’mores. . Parks and Recreation will be providing Dinner and Breakfast for attendees. Campsites and On-Site Check-In will be available at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Attendees should be packed up by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
