About Simon Horobin
Professor Simon Horobin is a distinguished scholar specializing in the history of the English language, particularly during the Medieval period. Since 2006, he has been a Fellow at Magdalen College, Oxford, after serving as Reader in English Language at the University of Glasgow. Professor Horobin has held prestigious visiting professorships at institutions such as the University of Connecticut, Harvard University, and Charles University, Prague.
At Oxford, he teaches undergraduate courses in English Language and Medieval Literature, as well as graduate-level classes for the MSt in English Language and the MSt/MPhil in English Literature.
His acclaimed publications include The English Language: A Very Short Introduction (2018), How English Became English: A Short History of a Global Language (2016), and Does Spelling Matter? (2013). Notably, his work The Language of the Chaucer Tradition (2003) earned the Beatrice White Prize for outstanding scholarship in Medieval and Renaissance studies.
