What do you do if you’re a university theatre professor and you find yourself working with increasingly depressed, isolated, and anxious students? What do you do if you feel like a ‘canary in the coal mine’ of institutional learning? Performer and Professor Kenney created Canary, a show combining the poetic and imaginative possibilities of physical theatre, object theatre, and audience participation with the “Ted Talk” aesthetic.
Performed with percussionist Andrew Stauffer, Canary is a celebration of the power of live performance, investigating embodiment as it relates to human evolution, to learning, to the wild, to mindfulness… and to our tribal proclivities. Kenney takes the audience on a forensic romp across human history, and a poetic dive into the “here and now”.
