Celebrate Cesar Chavez's birthday with a FREE presentation of Cesar Says on March 27 at 7 p.m. in the Mask Alive Art Collection Gallery.
In this storytelling performance Zarco Guerrero portrays the life and times of this iconic historical figure through his unique masked characters and their reverent yet humorous style of storytelling.
Cesar’s words of wisdom and the history of the period are highlighted in this performance. Zarco puts Chavez’s life and accomplishments into perspective in a delightful and engaging way in this family-friendly show.
Following the performance, attendees can participate in a community conversation through a Q & A with Zarco about his experiences with Cesar, and the importance of art as social service.
This is event is free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first serve.
2-hour parking validation is available for attendees who use the Arizona Center parking structure on the Southwest corner of Fillmore and 5th St.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Zarco Guerrero, muralist, sculptor, mask maker, storyteller, and performance artist, was born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. He has dedicated his artistic endeavors to create positive social change through the arts. Zarco has exhibited his sculptures and masks in Mexico and throughout the United States. He has painted over 45 mural projects nationwide and has had his artwork in many Museums around the Southwest, including a retrospective exhibition of over 200 pieces of art featured at the Northern Arizona Museum in Flagstaff. Known for his storytelling and masks, Zarco's work has been used in a variety of theater companies including Childsplay, Black Theater Troupe, Borderlands Theater, to name a few. His unique style of mask making is a natural expression of his artistic practices and influences which included studying mask making with masters of the craft in Japan, Bali, and Mexico. Our programs and events feature professional and youth artists, storytellers, folklórico dancers, mariachi musicians, traditional healers/curanderas, and more, as professional practitioners of ancestral traditions to instill cultural pride in our communities. Cultural Coalition also provides a free daily after school arts program, located inside a low-income housing complex in Mesa. The program provides free meals, homework help, and arts, science, and gardening activities, annually serving over 100 youth in grades K-6.
