What You Will Learn

We are excited to welcome Chef John Shields back to NTTC’s kitchen. Otherwise known as the Culinary Ambassador of the Chesapeake Bay, John is the chef and owner of the award-winning restaurant, Gertrude's Chesapeake Kitchen at the Baltimore Museum of Art, as well as a public television personality, host of two streaming cooking shows (Chesapeake Farm & Bay to Table and Chesapeake Bites), and founder of the non-profit, Our Common Table. John fervently believes that we can eat well, protect the environment, and rebuild we local food economy one bite at a time.

In this class, Chef John, along with Chef Gwyn and special guest Kara Mae Harris, Maryland culinary historian and founder of Old Line Plate, will showcase their love of all things Chesapeake Bay while highlighting their favorite array of local produce and seasonally harvested seafood. In addition, Kara will discuss the history behind many of our iconic Maryland dishes. With a focus on oysters, this class is not to be missed!
