Description
“Wilke’s playing goes far beyond the notes… giving us the opportunity to understand something deep through this beautiful language of music.” - Guitar Foundation of America Soundboard
Renowned baroque lutenist Christopher Wilke - a former student of Paul O'Dette's and now director of guitar and lute at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music - will perform a recital dedicated to the sonatas of Bernhard Joachim Hagen. One of the last composers to write for the 24-string lute, Hagen left a rich body of sonatas known as much for their sweeping melodic style and dramatic changes of mood as well as for their extreme technical difficulty. Virtually unheard today, come hear the sublime beauty of this rare music be reborn in the unparalleled acoustics and visual environment of the Church of Our Saviour.
