Description
A climate café is a reflective and empathetic space where people are welcome to share as much or as little as they would like about their emotions related to the climate and ecological crisis. The primary goal of a climate café is to provide a safe and accessible opportunity for individuals and communities to find ways to face and hold the unsettling realities of the planetary crisis. Climate cafés are not focused on advice-giving, or action-taking and do not have a specific political agenda.
This climate café will be facilitated by two Climate Psychology Alliance of North America members who are also trained climate café facilitators. All people and all experiences are welcome in this group, and we ask that everyone who does attend is prepared to be respectful and understanding of others. The more we talk, the less alone we feel.
You must be 18 years old or older to attend this climate café.
HEALTHCARE DISCLAIMER REGARDING CLIMATE CAFES
Meetings of our climate cafes are meant to provide individuals with information,
education and personal support. They will be an informal, open, respectful space at which participants may reflect upon and share their emotional responses related to the climate and environmental emergency. Our facilitators, who may be licensed mental health professionals, will assist participants in exploring their thoughts, feelings and experiences and in doing so will at times provide general information about psychological and emotional issues. However, our facilitators will not engage in rendering any psychotherapeutic or healthcare advice, or advice of any kind for any individual or for their particular situation.
The Climate Café Facilitator does not provide medical, mental health or any other type of healthcare service. No diagnosis or treatment of, or advice regarding, any medical or mental health condition or illness of any participant can or will be offered. Participation in our climate cafes cannot substitute for, and is not an alternative to, medical or other healthcare diagnosis and treatment when a medical or mental health condition or illness is present. Participants are advised to seek diagnosis, treatment and advice regarding medical or mental health conditions or
illnesses from physicians, psychotherapists and other licensed healthcare professionals.
When you sign-up to attend this climate cafe, you are indicating your understanding of and agreement to the limitations of the Climate Café you will be attending on April 25th, 2024 at CultureHouse Union Square.
