Bio:
Dr. Katherine de Vos Devine is an attorney and formally trained art historian. She has helped hundreds of artists and creatives build businesses, protect their creations, and plan their legacies. Previously, she founded de Vos Devine Law, a boutique art law firm based in Asheville, NC, and Cauldron Arts Incubator, a consultancy dedicated to helping emerging Southeastern artists build professional skills for successful careers. She is the former executive director of Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center and worked at Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft LLP, where she assisted public charities and private foundations with organization, incorporation, and tax exemption.
Katherine has spoken widely about intellectual property, artists’ rights, arts organizations, and art markets at venues including Triangle Artworks, Mountain Bizworks, University of California at Berkeley, Harvard University, the North Carolina Museum of Art, Art Basel, and Art Papers Salon. When she’s not drafting wills and negotiating contracts, Katherine teaches Art Law at Queens University and writes Protect Your Magic, a newsletter on intellectual property and creative economies.
