Description
Ghostly greetings, Haunters. You are invited to join me in a terrifyingly gay discussion of Queer culture in horror films. Presented by Dr. Brent’s drag alter ego Professor Clitty Umbridge, we will dig into the graves of horror movies gone by to uncover the bones of Queer expression, themes, and meaning. Such ghastly queries will include the roles of the outcast, the self-righteous, the slasher, the perverse, the mob, and the innocent. Unapologetically Queer, we will gleefully decenter straight and cisgender obsessions with “shoulds” and “labels” only to embrace the horrific abyss of the in-betweens that is Queer culture in horror. Dare to join me in gazing into the crystal ball of the dark rainbow? Welcome…to the closet. <insert low witchy cackle here>
Attendees will identify at least three themes associated with Queer horror. Embody one role of Queer horror in film. Distinguish at least two ways that horror has othered Queer people for cisgender and heteronormative communities. Embrace at least two ways that Queer horror has empowered LGBTQIA+ folx to step beyond cisgender and heteronormative norms.
