Join the Clinton Presidential Center for their next “Commanding the Screen” Watch Party on Saturday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ron Robinson Theater in partnership with the Central Arkansas Library System.
The event is free and open to the public. Register here to attend. Concessions will be available for purchase.
We’ll be screening Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). In the film, an unhinged Air Force General, played by Peter Sellers, unleashes ingenious foolproof and irrevocable pre-emptive nuclear attack on the Soviet Union. U.S. President Merkin Muffley, also played by Sellers, works with his advisors and generals in a desperate effort to save the world.
“Commanding the Screen: The American Presidency in Film and Television” presents the leading role of the president in American society through the lens of television and film. This exhibition invites visitors to explore cinematic performances of fictional and real-life presidents, and examine how America’s spirit, values, and historical journey are reflected in these portrayals of the Commander in Chief. It features original costumes, authentic props, and other memorabilia from portrayals of the American presidency on screen.
