Description
The cost of living/energy crisis and the pandemic has increased the risk of undernutrition in the community and identifying the early signs is more important than ever. As part of the Ageing Well Partnership, Brighton and Hove Food Partnership and Impact Initiatives are hosting an in-person training at the Community Kitchen. The training will teach you how to identify the signs of undernutrition and dehydration in older adults, helping you gain an understanding of what measures you can take to minimise the risk of these, including demonstrating practical ideas on how to fortify foods. You will explore undernutrition, its causes and effects, have some useful tips and ideas to fortify foods, and learn how to use the handy nutrition wheel as a conversation starter.
This in-person training session for professionals, volunteers or staff who work with older adults is hosted by Registered Public Health Nutritionist Sarah Kennedy and Maxine Bull, Ageing Well Eating Well Support Worker (https://ageingwellbh.org/food-and-nutrition).
This training is suitable for frontline workers, professionals and volunteers who directly support older adults.
The aims of the training are:
- Gain an understanding of the role of good nutrition and hydration in older adults.
- Understand the impact of the cost of living/energy crisis and the pandemic on undernutrition.
- Be able to identify possible red flags when it comes to undernutrition and dehydration.
- Find out about the nutrition wheel and learn how to use it.
