About the Hosts!
The Water Collaborative is a local non-profit dedicated to water quality, access and affordability for all Southeast Louisianians. The organization recently published the results of a comprehensive study of lead contamination in Orleans Parish drinking water, providing free lead tests and water filters for nearly 150 households. They are now conducting free testing for PFAS (forever chemicals) in residences in seven parishes along Cancer Alley. The Water Collaborative also advocates for better stormwater policy and more green infrastructure for the city of New Orleans.
Step Up Louisiana is a membership based organization that fights for good jobs and good schools, with chapters across Southeast Louisiana. Step Up has worked with members, workers, advocates, and elected officials for years to form and put forward the Workers’ Bill of Rights (WBOR). The WBOR will put workers’ rights into the Bill of Rights in New Orleans’ Home Rule Charter, stating definitively that workers in our city deserve a living wage, healthcare access, the right to organize without retaliation, and paid leave. With the national election looming, and our state government attacking workers - it’s imperative that New Orleans stands up proudly for its people.
