The Twin Cities Chapter of the CFMA is a vibrant chapter with more than 200 members and serves the construction community throughout the state of Minnesota. Join CFMA Twin Cities on February 15 as we dive into legislative issues impacting Minnesota contractors. We are fortunate to have three prominent panelists that represent many of our members at the capitol.
This program will be a panel discussion with a focus on some of the following:
- The outcome of election and current legislative make-up
- 2-Year State Budget and Bonding
- Association of Women Contractors (AWC) Initiatives
- Safe & Sick
- Family Leave
- Cannabis
This program will include 30 minutes of networking prior to a one hour panel discussion. Questions are encouraged for the panel but should relate to the items above.

Featured Panelists:
Laura Ziegler
Laura is the Director of Highway and Government Affairs at Associated General Contractors of Minnesota. Laura serves as the primary staff for the Highway/Heavy Equipment Division and directs AGC's legislative policy and regulatory agenda. She advises and represents AGC members at the Minnesota Legislature and with state agencies, as well as the federal government and Congress.
Barb Lau
Barb is the Executive Director for the Association of Women Contractors (AWC) - a trade association for women owned construction companies and the businesses that support them. As Executive Director, she leads the organization through providing networking and educational programs that advance women business owners. She oversees large public projects to ensure business goals are assessed and met.
Gary Thaden
A native of Minnesota, Gary Thaden earned a bachelor degree from the college of liberal arts at the University of Minnesota before attending William Mitchell College of Law (St. Paul) where he earned his J.D. degree. The government affairs director for two construction trade associations (Minnesota Mechanical Contractors Association and the Minnesota contractors of the National Electrical Contractors Association) and spends his days during the Legislative session at the State Capital. Gary is a member of the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Advisory Council and the Minnesota Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council. Mr. Thaden is a nationally recognized health care speaker and for 12 years served as the management co-chair of the Labor/Management Health Care Coalition of the Upper Midwest.
