Programme brief:

A conversation between ESEA and Hong Kong filmmakers, this panel invites filmmakers to reflect on their experiences in Asia and the UK. How significant a role does location play? Do you ever feel like a stranger in your own land during filming? Does your ethnic minority status in the UK affect how you develop a film? How do you avoid falling into traps of stereotypical portrayals or preconceptions?

Followed by a Q&A and networking session, this is an opportunity to learn, understand, and explore the impact of dislocation and relocation and to discuss how the UK film industry can continue to work towards diversifying on and off-screen presence.

Building on this vivid and eclectic history, the Festival aims to introduce a new wave of Hong Kong cinema that has blossomed in an era of drastic transformation. It is time to tell Hong Kong’s story again, to preserve and promote Hong Kong's cultural heritage, and to reflect on the city's enchanting, complex, and challenging reality from a fresh perspective.
