The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership's Community Kitchen is a cookery school where everyone can cook, learn new skills and enjoy food with others. We want everyone to experience the benefits of cooking and eating together. By paying for a cookery class, you help other people to attend cookery activities, regardless of finance, confidence or ability, and to make lasting changes to their lives.
Description
Join Lerato Umah-Shaylor, popular food writer, presenter and Community Kitchen favourite, for an evening celebrating the decadent spices and ceremonies of North African cooking.
Lerato will show you how to become confident with spice and share amazing North African-inspired recipes from her cookbook, Africana.
Additionally, learn the art of Atay, the ceremonial tea brewing enjoyed across Morocco. Shared amongst both old and new friends. You will learn how to make Lerato’s fragrant take on this favourite with decadent roses and hibiscus flowers.
In pairs you will create a celebratory menu including:
- Chicken or vegetable Bastilla / Pastilla- A wonderful pie with savoury and sweet flavours traditionally served at special occasions
- Ras el hanout spice blend
- Rainbow roast vegetables- A vibrant roast using the spices you have made in class.
- Moroccan mint tea with cinnamon, rose and hibiscus
- Fragrant carrot and orange salad- A beautiful salad that will consume the kitchen with the fragrant smell of Christmas with ginger, spice & all things nice.
