The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership's Community Kitchen is a cookery school where everyone can cook, learn new skills and enjoy food with others. We want everyone to experience the benefits of cooking and eating together. By paying for a cookery class, you help other people to attend cookery activities, regardless of finance, confidence or ability, and to make lasting changes to their lives.
Description
Emma has made it her mission to ensure that those with gluten-free diets and sensitive guts can still create and enjoy their favourite baked goods.
In this class, Emma will share the tips and techniques behind successful gluten-free bread baking. You will find out why psyllium husk and xanthan gum have such important roles, discover the different types of gluten-free flours (and how to make your own blends), and learn all about the role of yeast and the importance of hydration levels. Kneading, shaping, rising, baking and cooling – it’s all covered in this class on one of life’s essentials.
By the end of the class you will takeaway:
- an everyday sandwich loaf
- chewy sesame bagels
- Flatbreads
Dietary information: The menu for this class is gluten-free, but please note we cannot guarantee the kitchen is a fully gluten-free environment. We can adapt the menu for dairy-free diets, but this must be specified when booking. For any other allergies or dietary requirements, please contact us to discuss before booking.
*This class involves cooking with nuts
