Taught by Nona Narcisse, Grounded in Joy is a five week series that will dive deeper into what can give a performance that “je ne sais quoi”; a potent quality that cannot be described or named easily. There is a unique, joyful edge that only you can bring to the world’s stage…and the world needs your gifts, art and enjoyment now more than ever! Learn fun and indulgent choreography to present as a group number at Tease: A Burlesque Revue on April 13th at The Space. This series will explore highly coveted, time honored techniques and tricks to connect with yourself & the audience, elevate your stage presence and give your storytelling a special gravity. We’ll discuss how to move ever forward with courage, joy and pleasure both on and off stage!
Nona Narcisse has been trained in several different dance modalities, including ballet, modern, belly dance and African dance. She has theater, clown and mime training from the lauded Celebration Barn Theater. The Barn was founded by Tony Montanaro, a student of Marcel Marceau. She began doing burlesque in New Orleans in 2007, earning her chops performing with some of the best musicians and entertainers in the world. She has worked with such greats as The Cab Calloway Jazz Orchestra, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Reba McEntire, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic and has been hired to travel as far as The Ascona, Switzerland Jazz Festival to perform. In 2022, Nona performed in The Movers, Shakers and Innovators showcase at the Burlesque Hall of Fame Weekender. Based in Las Vegas Nevada, she is the proprietor of Looking Glass Gems, specializing in beautiful, affordable rhinestones for creative design.
Class meets every Wednesday from March 13th through April 10th from 7p-8:30p. Class culminates in a group performance at Tease: A Burlesque Revue at The Space on Saturday, April 13th.
Student Performance - Sat. April 13th / Tech 6:00PM - 7:00PM/ Showtime 8PM-9:30PM at The Space. .Students will be paid a stipend for their participation in the show.
This class is offered to all. The School of Striptease teaches using the motto, "all bodies are burlesque bodies."
Students are responsible to pay for any missed classes. NO DROPINS. Students must commit to full 5 week course. No refunds for missed classes. All sales are final. No admittance for missed payments. This course is scheduled to be taught in-person.
The Burlesque Hall of Fame reserves the right to teach this course virtually, at its discretion.
