Description
Give the gift of HANDS ON BOATS! Session gift certificates can be purchased for the 2018 season (dates TBD) and are fully refundable if dates do not correspond to recipients schedule. Full day sessions run from 9am-4pm and include lunch in Fig Tree Cafe and two raffle tickets to win the completed boat.
In Spring 2018, HANDS ON BOATS will resume construction of a replica Piscataqua River Wherry based on the lines off of an historic Piscataqua River Wherry, which is part of the Strawbery Banke Museum collection.
HANDS ON BOATS, the Boatshop’s new signature program, is designed for adults who are interested in wooden boats and want to be part of constructing a new boat while learning-by-doing alongside a master boat builder.
The project is broken into phases focused on a particular aspect of construction, with multiple session days offered during each phase. Sessions are offered full or half day (morning only) and are limited to six participants to ensure ample opportunity for one-on-one interaction and guidance. Interested participants can sign up for one or multiple sessions based on their interest, schedule and budget.
2017 participants documented the historic vessel, lofted the new boat and created the patterns and molds. 2018 participants will have the opportunity to work alongside a master boat builder to set up and plank the boat, and create and install the trim, rails and finish work. Dates will be published in early 2018. Check back or join our mailing list to be notified
