Founded in 1994, the Foundation for Educational Opportunities, Inc. (FEO) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization positively impacting Greater Hartford by providing scholarships to deserving college-bound students and implementing community based, self-improvement learning opportunities in the areas of health, education, family dynamics and economics. Greater Hartford is strengthened by our programs which result in elevating dialogue regarding issues impacting underserved members of the community.

The Foundation for Educational Opportunities, Incorporated in conjunction with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Epsilon Omicron Omega chapter in Hartford, CT present its 10th Annual signature event, Hartford Girls Rock! to celebrate, inspire and honor the area’s best and brightest young ladies for their academic achievement, leadership potential and community service.
This year’s theme EmpowerHER: BUILDING FUTURES AND INSPIRING DREAMS....A DECADE OF IMPACT, INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION will honor 11 young women who are high school students grades 9 through 11 identified by Greater Hartford’s leading community-based organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club, the YWCA, the Urban League, Hartford Youth Scholars, Blue Hills Civic Association and the Legacy Foundation. Honorees participate in our Leadership Institute, facilitated by dynamic corporate executives, entrepreneurs, TV personalities, educators and community activists. Institute topics include educational excellence, career exploration, civic engagement and working through obstacles to achieve personal goals.
Our dynamic keynote speaker for Hartford Girls Rock! is three-time Emmy Award-winner and two-time New York Times best-selling author Sunny Hostin. She has been co-host of The View since 2016. Her debut novel, Summer on the Bluffs (William Morrow), skyrocketed to #11 on The New York Times Bestseller List. On May 2, 2023, Sunny released the second book in her “Summer” trilogy, Summer on Sag Harbor, which became an instant New York Times bestseller. The third book in the trilogy, Summer on Highland Beach, was released this summer 2024. Sunny is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® and currently resides in New York with her husband Manny and two children, Gabriel and Paloma.
All proceeds from Hartford Girls Rock! benefit our foundation’s scholarship programs. Over the past decade, we have awarded over $100,000 in scholarships. In fact, several of our 75 Hartford Girls Rock! honorees have been awarded our scholarships, and we continue to support their success. Join us in celebrating these dynamic young women!
