11 E State StreetA circle of strangers, a balloon, a bear suit, Kandinsky at the Opera, a high school football game, a chance encounter, and an exercise in group trust, ‘Inertia’ is an intergenerational theatrical event (ages 8 and older) that explores the fabric of what theater is. Inviting the audience in as scene partners and participants in the work, this joyful performance experiment asks us all to examine why we gather for live encounters and what is the communal story we are all taking part in.
‘Inertia’ is created by Drew Petersen who has created original intergenerational theater for Lincoln Center Education, The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Park Avenue Armory, New Victory Theater, Big Apple Circus, Wallis Annenberg Center in Beverly Hills, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Miami Theatre Center, and Cleveland Playhouse Square.
He was the Artistic Director for Trusty Sidekick Theater Company for 5 years, a theater company devoted to creating high quality, original work for young audiences and their families. In 2018, Drew was the first recipient of the National Theater for Young Audiences Artistic Innovation award from The Kennedy Center.
