This class is perfect for anyone looking to learn rosemaling, refine their techniques, or refresh their skills. Julie will guide you through the essential skills and techniques needed to begin or continue your rosemaling journey. You’ll explore rosemaling history, view demonstrations, practice during dedicated painting time, and receive personalized feedback. You’ll learn about painting supplies, wood surface preparation, background painting, pattern transfer techniques, stroke work, linework, basic color mixing, brush care, and decorative border techniques. You can choose to paint with either acrylic or oil paints, depending on your preference.

Your Instructor:
Bio: Julie Anderson has been teaching rosemaling since 1998, sharing her love for the art and being an active part of the rosemaling community. Since the fall of 2020, she has also taught virtually, focusing on Hallingdal, Telemark, and Os styles. Her instruction emphasizes techniques, interpreting old work, and exploring color, design, and personal expression. Julie has also taught other folk art styles, including Swedish Dalmålning/Kurbits and German Bauernmalerei. She has studied with American, Norwegian, and Swedish artists. Julie received an honorable mention in the 2019 Vesterheim Norwegian-American Folk Art Exhibition and was featured in MacPherson’s Artist Spotlight.

Rosemaling Coast to Coast, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organized to celebrate the art of Norwegian rosemaling through a national organization that supports and enriches the artistic activities of the individual. Members study, paint, teach, and promote the love of rosemaling. The skillset is broad, from beginners to highly-skilled, award-winning artists.
