Jimmy Fortune

The Grand Ole Opry and TV star celebrates God and Country.

This TV star was one of The Statler Brothers for 21 years. They were inducted into the CMA Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame. They also won CMA’s Vocal Group of the Year Award.

After the Statler Brothers retired, Jimmy was inducted into the Virginia Musical Hall of Fame as a solo artist, and he won the Dove Award for Album of the Year.

Jimmy is a regular at the Grand Ole Opry and the TV series “Country’s Family Reunion” and “Larry’s Country Diner.” He often appears as a guest on various TV shows.

The voice of Jimmy Fortune is one of those special instruments. His recognizable tenor has been part of many big Country hits.

He wrote The Statler Brothers’ big hits, "Elizabeth," "My Only Love," and "Too Much On My Heart." He also wrote the Top-10 hit "Forever" and co-wrote the Top-10 hit "More Than a Name on a Wall."

“I have one foot in Country music and the other foot in Gospel music,” said Jimmy. “My Country music is about the struggles and the hardships of life. With Gospel it’s about getting back on track and finding the right answers through the good Lord. They go hand in hand.”

For seven years, Jimmy co-hosted TNN’s popular “The Statler Brothers Show” that debuted in 1991. It was TNN’s top-rated series for its entire run.

He has performed in all of the U.S. States, in Canadian Provinces, and in front of audiences as large as 100,000. He was privileged to perform at the White House on two occasions, once for President Ronald Reagan, and once for President George H. W. Bush.

For 14 years, Jimmy was part of the Statler Brothers’ annual Happy Birthday USA celebration in Staunton, Virginia.

In 2015 Jimmy teamed-up with the Gaither Music Group and recorded the “Hits and Hymns” CD and DVD which debuted at #10 Billboard Country Album, #1 Southern Gospel, and #6 Billboard Contemporary Christian. The DVD debuted at #1 on Billboard Music Video charts.

In 2017 he recorded a compilation of his favorite songs called “Jimmy Fortune Sings the Classics” on the Gaither Music label. In 2019 he released his latest solo project called “God and Country” which includes a CD and DVD. This project one a Dove Award in 2020 for Country/Gospel/Roots Album of the Year.

In 2020 Jimmy joined his friends Ben Isaacs, Mike Rogers and Bradley Walker to release “Brotherly Love,” a project that included a CD and DVD. The result was #16 on the Billboard chart (all genres), Top Album Sales on 9-19-20.

The Barnhill Center
Built-in 1925, in the grand architectural style of Beaux-Arts Classical Revival, the Simon Theatre provided a splendid setting for many theatrical performances, film screenings and ballroom dances. The James Simon family commissioned Houston architect Alfred C. Finn, whose career included designing a number of prominent Houston buildings as well as the San Jacinto Monument, to design the theatre for the community of Brenham. Today, after a meticulous million-plus dollar renovation, the glamour and grand style lives on for future generations in the newly named Barnhill Center at Historic Simon Theatre.
