Junk Journals are made with recycled and found materials. Old papers, maps, books, sheet music, etc. can be used to put together a creative reuse project. We'll base ours off of old books, which can be obtained from most any thrift store for a few dollars or less. We'll cut and glue and paint the book, add ephemera, recycled objects and papers and explore different binding techniques for the creation of something truly unique to you and your environment.
Supplies for students to bring to class:
1. An old book that you can use as the base of your journal.
2. Any ephemera you may want to incorporate into your journal – things like maps, papers, packaging, found objects, recycled materials of any sort as long as they are clean and ready to use.
3. Optional – Any hand tools you like working with – there will be tools available everyone but if you prefer your specific tools, you might want to bring them. Things like a ruler, scissors, exacto/utility knife, cutting mat, paint markers or pens, etc.
