Description
Join us on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Ballantyne Auditorium for Kirkwood Community College's spring Jazz Band performance!
This concert features special guest Rachel Eckroth. Eckroth is an alumnus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, completing a Bachelor of Music degree in 2000. She also holds a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Rutgers University (2005), studying jazz piano under Professor Stanley Cowell. Her work as a composer and arranger began in Las Vegas, and she soon expanded to the world as an Artist and Sideman.
Eckroth has collaborated in different projects with Tia Fuller, Donny McCaslin, Hues, and universities around the country. Her combination of jazz experimentation and pop feeling form the engine behind her own work as a leader/co-leader on nearly 20 albums, most recently "The Garden" on Rainy Days Records (2021) and a solo piano album titled "One." That same crossover talent is why she's been featured on voice and keyboards in the bands of Rufus Wainwright, St. Vincent, KT Tunstall, and Chris Botti. Eckroth's most well known project, "The Garden," complete with a Grammy Nomination in 2021, features eight tracks written or co-written by Eckroth.
This performance will be held at Ballantyne Auditorium on Kirkwood Community College’s campus, located at 6301 Kirkwood Blvd SW, Cedar Rapids. Enter campus at the southwest entrance, at the corner of Kirkwood Blvd. SW and Tower Rd. SW. Travel east on Tower Rd. SW, and take a left to stay on Tower Rd. SW as it continues northeast into campus. You will see ample parking and a building marked “Ballantyne Auditorium.”
From there, you will be inside Iowa Hall in an entrance area near an Information Desk and Coffee Shop. Head straight to a set of downward stairs, and take those stairs directly down to the Ballantyne Auditorium entrance on the right.
