6:00-7:30 pm (Doors at 5:30) Use Poetry: A Lowell Celebrates Kerouac reading and discussion

 

Poets Tanya Grae, Ariella Ruth, and Linda Bratcher Wlodyka will read their work and join poet and UMASS Lowell Associate Professor Maggie Dietz for a discussion of Jack Kerouac’s influence and legacy as a poet.

Linda Bratcher Wlodyka is the Massachusetts, Beat Poet Laureate, 2023-2025. Last summer, she was chosen as a contributor to WordxWord a summer poetry festival in the Berkshires. Her poem, Secret Cottage, was voted “Best in the Berkshires” in 2012. If Brambles Were Bookends Collected Poems, her first full length poetry collection, was published by Human Error Publishing in 2023. She has three self-published chapbooks and her poems appear in a myriad of journals and anthologies. She is a member of the Florence Poet’s Society.

 

Ariella Ruth is the author of the chapbook REMNANTS (Gesture Press, 2019) and was a finalist for the 2017 Two Sylvias Press Chapbook Prize. She has a poem engraved on a sandstone monolith in downtown Boulder, Colorado, as part of the West Pearl Poetry Project. She holds an MFA in Writing & Poetics from Naropa University’s Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics and works at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

 

Tanya Grae’s debut collection Undoll (YesYes Books) was the winner of the Julie Suk Award for Best Poetry Book by a Literary Press, as well as a Florida Book Award. Selected for Best New Poets 2019 by Cate Marvin, she is the recipient of a Kingsbury Fellowship, an Academy of American Poets Prize, a Kerouac Residency, and the Tennessee Williams Poetry Prize, selected by Yusef Komunyakaa. Her poems and essays appear in Ploughshares, American Poetry Review, AGNI, Prairie Schooner, Post Road, and other places. She serves as an editor for the Florida Senate and teaches at Florida State University.
