The Cherry Hill Chamber Orchestra, led by conductor Marshunda Smith, was founded in the fall of 2019. Marshunda created the orchestra because she wanted to program and conduct works that moved her intellectually and physically. Her passion for the music is evident in every performance, as she immerses herself in the sounds of the orchestra and shares that passion with the audience.
Marshunda also seeks to break down the invisible wall that can sometimes exist between musicians and audience members. She encourages a more participatory experience, inviting applause between movements and encouraging all to become lost in the sounds they are experiencing. Her goal is to create an environment where the music can be fully appreciated and enjoyed by all.
This approach has had an impact on both the orchestra and audience. The musicians feel more connected to the audience and are able to convey their passion and energy more effectively. The audience, in turn, feels more engaged and connected to the music, allowing them to fully appreciate the depth and beauty of the performances.
