Theatre Etiquette & Recommendations for Young Audience Members
At Dillard Street Theatre, we strive to create the best possible experience for both our audience and our hardworking performers. To maintain the integrity of the performance and ensure an enjoyable experience for all guests, we strongly recommend that children under the age of 5 not attend our productions.
Why This Policy?

Respect for Our Performers – Our young actors have dedicated countless hours to rehearsals, perfecting their performances. A quiet, engaged audience allows them to showcase their hard work without distractions.

An Intimate Theatre Setting – Unlike large arenas, our theatre provides an up-close and immersive experience. Even small noises, restless movement, or disruptions can be heard and seen, affecting both the audience’s enjoyment and the performers’ ability to focus.

Consideration for Fellow Audience Members – Theatre is a shared experience. Every guest deserves the opportunity to enjoy the show without interruptions. A quiet atmosphere enhances the magic of live theatre for everyone in attendance.

Preserving the Quality of the Video Recording – Many of our productions are professionally recorded so that families can cherish and relive the performance. Unexpected sounds—such as crying, talking, or movement—can be picked up on the audio, diminishing the quality of the recording for everyone.
What Happens If a Child Becomes Disruptive?
To ensure the best possible experience for all audience members:
- If a child becomes disruptive during the performance, we may kindly ask the child and their accompanying adult to step out of the auditorium.
- If a situation occurs, we will stop the performance.
- If the child is unable to settle, they may not be permitted to re-enter. In this case, a refund will be issued for the child and the accompanying adult.
Additional Ticketing & Seating Policies
- Lap-seating is not permitted. All patrons, including children, must have their own ticketed seat.
- Only reasonable refunds and exchanges will be provided.
Late Arrivals & Theatre Seating Etiquette
At Dillard Street Theatre, we are committed to providing an exceptional theatre experience for all guests. Due to the intimate nature of our venue, late arrivals can be disruptive to both the performers and fellow audience members.
Late Arrival Policy
- Patrons arriving after the performance has begun will be seated at the discretion of the House Manager or Box Office Manager.
- To minimize disruption, late arrivals may be asked to wait until an appropriate pause in the performance—such as a scene change or intermission—before being escorted to their reserved seats.
- In some cases, latecomers may be temporarily seated toward the back of the auditorium until a suitable time arises to move to their assigned seats.
Why This Policy?

Preserving the Performance Experience – Our theatre is an intimate space, meaning even small distractions—such as guests entering after the show has started—can be noticeable to both the performers and the audience.

Minimizing Disruptions – A quiet and engaged audience ensures the best possible experience for everyone in attendance. Late seating is handled with care to avoid disturbing those already immersed in the show.

Plan to Arrive Early – We encourage guests to arrive at least 15-30 minutes before showtime to find their seats, use the facilities, and fully enjoy the theatre experience without feeling rushed.
