The Metrolina Council of Nursing Organizations (MCONO), founded in 1986, was established by local nursing organization leaders to organize the annual “Celebrate Nursing” banquet in the greater Charlotte area. The first event, held at the Sheraton Hotel with over 300 attendees, featured a speech by retired UNC nursing professor Dorothy Talbot and a slideshow of nurses in local facilities. MCONO is a nonprofit dedicated to planning this banquet each year, with committees focused on various aspects of the event, from banquet organization to publicity. Over time, the event has grown, with attendance ranging from 200 to 700 nurses, and has been held at various venues across Charlotte. The banquet provides a valuable opportunity for nurses to network, celebrate their profession, and hear from inspiring speakers.
