Please join us on April 19th for our CEU (2LUs) presentation on Minimizing Risk for Design Professionals. An unfortunate aspect of our profession is that Architects are often subjected to lawsuits and E&O claims. This seminar, led by Attorney Raymond Michaud, will help you better understand how to avoid legal consequences and how to handle those that can't be avoided. We will kick off the event with a 30 min networking where food and drinks will be provided. Hope to see you there!
Learning Objectives:
- We will take a deep dive on the NJ Statutory Requirements and Ethics laws for Architects. We will discuss common causes of litigation, breach of contracts and improve our understanding of our fiduciary duties when providing design and contract administration services. Members will have a better understanding the NJ Standard of Care, professional negligence and how to better understand the contract for services.
- Attendees will learn how to manage risks through indemnification, communication and contract language. We will discuss the architect's role in worksite obligations and safety and the legal obligations identified under New Jersey laws.
- We will discuss how to avoid litigation from the start of a project including; best practices tips, developing better contract language, professional conduct, design and communication procedures.
- Members will have a clear understanding of what to do when litigation is unavoidable. We will discuss several options to litigation resolution including mediation, arbitration and trials.
