Description
Nick Arneson is a Portland based producer, songwriter, musician and videographer. He’s been in and of the PDX music scene since the early 00’s, either playing drums in various bands or performing his own solo material. His trademarked variety of tongue in cheek despair makes his songwriting poignant and listenable without being so heavy that it makes you wanna go jump off something. He adopted a mustache in mid 2024 after having a beard for nearly a decade, and critics say his face isn’t nearly as chinless as they expected. A large portion of his personality is based on the amount of soda water he consumes, as his life got a lot more mundane after he quit drinking some 9 years ago. He’s 77 years old, though looks to be in his forties, as he suffers from a rare genetic condition that keeps him young in body and mind indefinitely. Doctors predict he will likely never actually die, a fate Arneson has described as “fucking exhausting to even think about” - though, critics argue, this fact does explain much of Arneson’s whimsical existential lyricism and dry cynical approach to almost everything.
He put out his second full length, self produced album in late 2024 - “Find A Way, Again” and began playing with his most recent band, The Sugar Hands of Moses, for the release of the aforementioned album. They’re a shredding engine of musical combustion, responsible for nearly 90% of the joy in the world, experts say. They have been outlawed in 12 or 13 Southern states because of their mesmerizing and hypnotizing rhythms that often leave audiences naked, sweating and orgasmically happy. It’s no doubt that the crowds at Nick and The SHOM’s live shows have been increasing in scale and attractiveness over these last couple months.
