Description

Have you ever wondered what it takes to preserve and restore a historic house like the Great House at Stratford Hall? Now is your chance to learn all about it!

What a better way to celebrate National Preservation Month than to join Stratford Hall’s Director of Preservation, Phil Mark, for a behind-the-scenes preservation tour of the 18th-century Great House. The tour will focus on the main floor of the house and the most recent room restoration projects. The exterior and lower level of the Great House will also be discussed during the tour, as will preservation projects taking place at neighboring outbuildings.

The tour will last approximately two hours with long periods of walking and standing. Visitors can expect to encounter uneven brick and gravel pathways, narrow spaces, and stairs to access the main floor of the historic Great House.

Limited spaces are available and advance reservation is required.

$30 per person
$15 per person for Friends of Stratford

Visitors are asked to arrive at the Stratford Hall Visitor Center 10 minutes prior to the start of the tour.

Stratford Hall Historic Preserve

Stratford Hall brings together people from around the world to experience two-thousand acres of natural and human history, preserved and presented so that we can all learn from the courageous struggles of our ancestors, taking inspiration both from what they endured and what they accomplished. There are few places in America where people can travel down small, rural roads to arrive at a vast site that preserves so many aspects of early-American life, from the Great House where the influential Lee family helped to forge a new nation, to the fields worked by enslaved Africans, to the waters of the rivers that fueled trade, to the ground, which still yields secrets about the people and animals that lived before.

Come experience this extraordinary place and learn about a layered history that began millions of years ago - a history that continues to educate, inspire, and influence Americans to the present day.
