The mission of the Saving Lives Foundation is to empower youth from under-represented
communities through arts-based programs designed to help build identity and self-esteem,
while developing empathy, and forging a vision of future opportunity and community building.
Youth living in the areas served by the Saving Lives Foundation see few opportunities
for developing their interests and talents. Turning to gun violence – most frequently without
understanding or believing the life consequences of such choices – results from an entire
sequence of thinking rooted in known hopelessness rather than the dream of success and self-
fulfillment.
Through classes and mentoring in the creative disciplines, Saving Lives Foundation programs will
educate youth by demonstrating that there are viable alternatives for them to pursue that they
may not have seen or considered. These programs target young people with creative interests
and talents to use these traits in pursuing enjoyable experiences that can lead to opportunities in
their adult lives.
To begin with, there will be classes in sewing, the culinary arts, hair and makeup styling, and
fashion styling. The program will provide field trips and meetings with creative professionals
throughout the city – with the deliberate focus on broadening the experience of the youth and
strengthening their ability to navigate new environments successfully and with confidence.
Underlying these experiences is education in professional etiquette, creative problem solving,
conflict resolution and emphasis on a solid work ethic.
