Description

The Rhode Island 250 Commission and the Rhode Island Historical Society are pleased to bring you a six-part series of educator professional development on Rhode island History leading up to the 250th anniversary of our nation. The first session, "The Birthplace of Religious Freedom: How Far Have We Come?", will explore Rhode Island's vital contribution to one of our most sacred democratic principles—religious freedom. Retired National Park Service Ranger and Roger Williams expert, John McNiff, will explore Williams' beliefs and actions to foster religious liberty. We will also explore how well Rhode Island lived up to that legacy in the exploration of the experiences of diverse religious groups in state history.  Free lessons and resources will be provided to all educators who attend, as well as a letter for 1 1/2 hours of professional development points and a $75 stipend.
