Description
The second installment of our Ritual series is curated by our violinist, Nicole Oswald, and pairs Edvard Grieg’s Quartet in G minor with L.v. Beethoven’s Op. 95 "Serioso" Quartet.
Edvard Grieg is likely Norway’s most well-known composer. He was one of the first composers in the 19th century to infuse Western compositional practice with local folk music tradition, and in doing so created truly timeless art. Nicole pairs Grieg’s Quartet with a unique work of Beethoven’s catalog: Opus 95, which the composer famously subtitled “Serioso.” This is Beethoven at his most experimental and dramatic, the product of which was intended “never to be performed in public”. Thirdspace is more than happy to defy this particular request from Beethoven. We invite you to join us as our accomplices audience.
Our Sunday performance benefits the St. Stephen's James and Alberta Davis Education Fund. This concert is free to attend. A free-will offering will be taken to benefit the Davis Education Fund.
The James & Alberta Davis Education Fund has been a ministry of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church for over 25 years. The Fund regularly gives funding to students, teachers, and programs throughout the Boise School District to provide clothing, food and snacks, hygiene supplies, car seats, swim lessons, driver’s education courses, and a variety of other needs. In 2023, The Davis Education Fund donated $10,000 to the Interfaith Sanctuary Capital Project, specifically to fund an Early Education classroom. Additionally, in the 2022-23 school year, over $7,000 was given to fund other needs throughout the school district.
Our ritual series presents classical staples and overlooked gems of the string quartet repertoire.
