Take a walk with us across Historic Hill to learn about and honor Newport’s Colonial Black American History. We will tell stories of their acts of resistance and struggles for freedom.

Experience Newport’s little-known Black history on a tour of Colonial-era Historic Hill. This unique opportunity brings you to historic locations designated with Rhode Island Slave History Medallion (RISHM) markers and other local landmarks. Your RISHM tour guide will introduce you to early Black Americans, their contributions, acts of resistance, and struggles for freedom that shaped not only Newport but the nation.
