The Cape Fear Bonsai Society, established in 2001, is a group that meets monthly to study and practice the art of Bonsai.
The club has an active program of training through workshops, guest speakers, and a sharing of Bonsai expertise. Membership is open to both the novice and the more experienced practitioner of Bonsai.

Root Over Rock Workshop
Join us for an immersive learning experience at our Root Over Rock Workshop, a special event designed for those with a keen interest in bonsai. Our workshop is hosted by the prestigious Ed Lauer from neighboring Triangle Bonsai Society located in the Raleigh- Durham area. Includes: Trident Maple Seedlings, hard, durable and craggy bonsai rock, bonsai soil, and nursery container. Tie down material and wire will be provided as well.
What to Expect
This workshop will dive deep into the fascinating Root Over Rock technique, a unique method in the world of bonsai cultivation. This technique involves planting trident maple seedlings on a rock and allowing the plants to grow and form around the rock's shape, eventually creating a unique and captivating visual presentation. If you follow the ongoing care instructions, you will soon (well, soon in bonsai time) have an impressive bonsai masterpiece of your own! Our experienced instructor will guide you through the process, demonstrating each step and offering personalized advice to help you master this art form.
