It is with great sadness the Rex’s Chronical must report that shortly before 18:00 on Saturday 22nd July HMS Warrior, herself setting sail on a reconnaissance mission to locate the whereabouts of explorer Sir Ian Silvester, was consumed by the elements and four-hundred men and women were lost.
Distress whistles were sounded from 16:36 when it first looked as if the mighty Warrior was facing trouble. Thanks to a prolonged and desperate rescue effort by the crew in horrendous conditions 395 personnel were able to be saved.
But within minutes of the vessel being struck the decks were flooded and there was no saving her. Eye witnesses report horrendous, blood curdling screams audible from the harbour-side in Portsmouth.
Most are now presumed drowned, but many of the stricken were washed ashore on Portsea Island.
Some continued to the local taverns and tap-houses in search of help and have not been seen since.
Inn-keepers have suggested they were press-ganged, although stories are bound of many dying after only receiving a single decant of ale for their thirst (and not the 2 promised).
To commemorate the horrific tragedy local brewery, Staggeringly Good will be hosting an event in memory of the lost.
Members of the churches and houses of worship however are in uproar as the venue intends to co-ordinate a mass seance in an attempt to contact the souls of the lost and encourage them to join in with the proceedings.
