Description

Keep your engines running strong! This class will guide you through the essentials of small engine care and repair. We’ll begin with a deep dive into gasoline—exploring which type is best for your engine, how long fuel actually lasts, and the damage it can cause as it degrades. From there, we’ll examine the three main types of fuel stabilizers, how each one works, and which is best suited for long-term storage versus regular use. Next, we’ll break down carburetors—how they function, common failure points, and how to decide whether to rebuild or replace them. That naturally leads us into the ignition system, where you’ll learn how it operates, what causes it to fail, and how to test and maintain it. Finally, we’ll cover small engine lubrication, explaining the differences between 2-stroke and 4-stroke systems, what oil to use, when to change it, and a few practical tips to make oil changes easier and cleaner.

Meet the Instructor: Rick Muscoplat is a former electrician, ASE Master Auto Technician, and writer of a DIY fix-it column for The Family Handyman.
