Shelley Washington - Middleground
Kevin Puts - Home
As the recipient of Thirdspace Quartet’s first-ever string quartet commission project, we are proud to present the world premiere of a brand new work by composer Jesse Salinas. In collaboration with the Boise State University Department of Composition, student composers were asked to respond to the concept of “People & Place” as it pertains to life in Boise, Idaho. The result is a brand new 20-minute original composition that explores the literal and metaphorical presence of one of Boise’s most emblematic spaces: the Boise Depot.
Additionally, Daniel Bernard Roumain boldly dedicates his fifth string quartet “to the memory of Rosa Parks and courageous women everywhere” while Gemma Peacocke contemplates the erasure of women from public consciousness. Shelley Washington pays homage to her home and refuge in the American Heartland while Kevin Puts considers those seeking home and refuge from crisis.
Inspiring, intimate, and adventurous: this is community powered chamber music.
State of the Art is generously supported by Idaho Commission on the Arts and Boise City Department of Arts & History.
This event is open to all ages. Families welcome.
