Description
We are pleased to feature pianists Jennie Liu and Kelvin ‘Levi’ Rojas on our concert series.
With performances at legendary venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Dimenna Center for Classical Music, pianist Kelvin 'Levi' Rojas is a frequent recitalist in the New York City and Denver area. Classically trained for nearly a decade, Levi has had performances in collaboration with the 92nd Street Y, Metropolitan Museum of Art, BronxNet News, Bronx Arts Ensemble, and Greenwich House Music School. He has received masterclasses from esteemed classical pianists such as Alexander Kobrin, Massimiliano Ferati, and Jeffrey Swann. He has won numerous awards from major competitions such as the Elite Piano Competition, New York Piano Festival and Competition, as well as the William J Scribner Young artists award.
Chinese classical pianist Jennie Liu has a rather unusual background. She did not receive formal piano training until the age of 19, yet her intuitive and sensitive playing, in particular of Chopin’s works, has already been recognized and praised by prominent pianists for possessing “unaffected yet elegant musicianship” (Marina Lomazov), and for being “technically very fine” (Anton Nel). Her most recent awards include 1st Place in the VII Valletta International Piano Competition in Malta; 2nd Place in the MTNA Stecher-Horowitz Two Piano Competition; and 1st Place in the 2021 Lamont Solo Honors Competition. She has performed in masterclasses with Jerome Lowenthal, Julian Martin, Gilbert Kalish, Jerome Rose, and Uriel Tsachor. She holds Bachelor's degrees in Philosophy and Music from Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame, and a Master's of Music from the University of Denver Lamont School of Music. Her most influential teachers are Steven Mayer and the late Nina Lelchuk.
