About the 2024 PS21 Gala!
Our pinnacle event of the season, the Gala spans the PS21 campus, featuring a cocktail fountain in the orchards, a farm-to-table dinner under the big tent, a silent auction, and a performance of Noli Timere, by acclaimed choreographer Rebecca Lazier, in our pavilion theater. All proceeds from the Gala allow PS21 to continue to provide everyone in our community affordable access to adventurous performing arts, to present our PATHWAYS series of free and low-cost community programming, and to keep our 100-acre campus maintained and open to the public every day.
Noli Timere by Rebecca Lazier (Canada)
Noli Timere is a soaring aerial performance-installation—eight dancers moving within, on, under, and around Janet Echelman’s voluminous floating iridescent net sculpture, up to 25 feet in the air. Rebecca Lazier’s choreography, with an original score by cellist and composer Jorane, daringly synthesizes experimental dance, avant-garde circus, installation art, music, engineering, public sculpture, and social practice.
Noli Timere (“be not afraid,” in Latin) makes the interconnectedness of the human and natural realms visible and tangible: a change in one element has cascading effects. The work is guided by urgent questions: how do we survive in a changing world, cope with instability, and live with precarity? During a time of unprecedented uncertainty, Noli Timere revels in our interconnectivity and resilience.
Support PS21's artistic and community focused mission
PS21's Gala raises funds critical to PS21’s commitment to presenting the free community programs that attract new audiences and to supporting the artists who create and present bold, innovative works in our theater that are “an affirmation of the human spirit” (San Francisco Chronicle) and “at once challenging and inviting” (New York Times).
To ensure that performances at PS21 are accessible to everyone in our Hudson Valley community, we keep ticket prices low and offer generous discounts. As a result, ticket sales cover just 10 percent of our annual operating expenses, and we rely on the generosity of individual donors to make it possible to sustain this experiment in cultural inclusion. By supporting the Gala and urging your friends to join as well, you help us reach our goals, and in return enjoy the dynamic and innovative Noli Timere in the poetic, natural landscape of our apple orchards.
Even in the best of times, ticket sales cover only a fraction of PS21’s costs; therefore, we rely on you to continue supporting our endeavors. Please consider making a donation today.
About PS21
A vibrant center for contemporary performance in the Hudson Valley, PS21 “presents work that challenges and invites” (The New York Times): adventurous productions by leading and emerging American and international artists in music, dance, and theater, and visionaries creating entirely new genres. On our open-air Pavilion Theater stage, across our expansive, unspoiled grounds, and in the diverse surrounding communities, PS21 cultivates and presents productions that transcend aesthetic boundaries and revitalize existing artistic languages and grammars. Throughout the year, we host developmental residencies for dancers, musicians, actors, and creators of original, even unclassifiable new work. Rooted in community collaboration, PS21’s programming engages creatively with critical global and social issues. It is a mecca for innovative and original artistic voices, a destination for performance that can be experienced nowhere else in the region. PS21’s Pavilion Theater is a green-energy marvel surrounded by 100 acres of unspoiled meadows, trails, and woodlands that are a haven to wildlife and visitors across the region. Integrated into our unspoiled campus, the theater embodies our commitments to the public: open, inviting, and optimized for their enjoyment and encouraging citizen expression and participation.
